Wing Bowl is over after 26 years: El Wingador shares his thoughts
Today is kind of a bittersweet day. By now, I’m sure most of you have heard the news that Wing Bowl, the biggest, single-day competitive eating event in the country, is officially over.
As you know, I’m never at a loss for words, so I thought I’d share some of my feelings on this wonderful, out-of-the-realm, wacky indoor Mardi Gras that changed my life forever.
In short, Wing Bowl put me on the map. It introduced me to millions of people I never would have met. It gave me a crazy life I never would have imagined.
There’s something to be said about going out on top. Angelo Cataldi and The WIP Morning Show started this event because they thought the Eagles would never win a Super Bowl. As we all know, the Birds reached their ultimate goal, and now there’s nothing left to prove.
While Wing Bowl is going away, it will live on in the project I am currently working on. I know I’ve been saying that for some time, but an announcement will hopefully be made soon. We WILL keep the spirit of Wing Bowl alive. That’s a promise.
In closing, I’d like to thank Angelo, Al Morganti and the entire Sportsradio WIP crew past and present, for some great memories I will never, ever forget, and for making a household name out of an ordinary guy from South Jersey, who despite some bumps in the road, is now on the cusp of a lifelong dream.
Peace and God bless,
